5 years, 5024 books

I read. A lot. To the point where one of the most frequently asked questions I get is how many books have you read. On August 23, 2006 I started keeping a list.

Life has changed in those last five years. A lot, actually. Try two colleges, a totally different degree than planned. A job I never expected, a layoff that through me totally off track, and a very recent, very unexpected job of a diffrent sort. Family insanity. Other insanities. I finished writing God-Slayer. And wrote 37 fics too - 39 if you count my McShep Match entry and the fic I'm working on now - in 6 different fandoms.

And I read a lot of books. 5 years is 1825 days. 5024 books in that amount of time adds up to 2.75 a day. Or 11% of a book an hour. Or one book every 9 hours or so.

For anyone wanting the complete list, well, it's in notebooks - two of them, actually - so you can't have it. But the highlights include The Fountainhead, which was the first I finished. On Killing, which is amongst the most recent. The entire published works of Paolo Coelho. The Forgiener Series by CJ Cheyrrh. More books on political science, space travel, and religious critisim than most people are aware exist. Most of Eugene O'Neill's plays. The Brothers Karamazov. Cry, the Beloved Country. Of Human Bondage. The Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix. Anne Rice's Interveiw with the Vampire series - most of it, anyway. Almost everything by Alistair Reynolds. The Dune Series, and some of it's prequels...

...And there are about 100 books on my shelf just waiting to be read. Plus my kindle.

Still, mostly I wanted to see if I could hit 5K by 5years. And I could - I actually hit 5K on the 17th, but held off my celebratory post until today. But still, I'm excited. A little too excited. So go me.
