The Saddest Book I've Ever Read

They Fought For Each Other by Kelly Kennedy is the saddest book I have ever read. The fact that it's basically frontline nonfiction on the Iraq War just made it that much sadder.

It's about a company in the 26th Infantry Regiment that, in the 2007 surge, suffered heavier casualties than did any other such unit. It was engaged in one of the most hostile sections of Bagdad; one private earned the Medal of Honour; one popular NCO committed suicide; one platoon effectively mutinied; and altogether, the company passed through a grim year....

If you read anything about Iraq this year, read this.
