CS4100 #1

First off: Housekeeping. Sorry I've been AWOL from this blog for a while. Between school and work and crippling depression, I've really had no energy to keep up with anything or anyone, especially now that AJ is over. But I'm here now, in part because School is requiring me to keep a blog for one of my seminars, so feel free to disregard anything you see tagged CS4100 if you're not interested. (And, if you're reading this for school, feel free to disregard anything not tagged CS4100, as you will probably only mentally scar youself that way.)

Anyway, I'll just continue on. I appologize in advance for the very informal nature of my writing, if that's not the goal, but I don't see any reason to be super-formal on this blog.

...make an introductory blog post describing your best "in class" computing experience as a computer science student and you best "outside the class" computing experience during your time as a computer science student.

To be honest, none of the projects we've ever done in class (or outside of class) have ever made me jump up for joy. I liked the UNO game we did in 2440, but that was more because I was researching UNO and trying to come up with a good algorithim than anything else. I suppose the Y86 simulator from Systems I might count, if only because it was something of an ego boost to get as much accomplished as we did, but mostly the project was just an excercise in tedium and frustration.

In all honesty, there are times when I despair of being a CS major at all. I like computers, I like learning about them, and so on, but the projects we do really don't grab my interest so much. If I had my way, I'd just research theory and algoritihims all the time - which leads me to my best "outside class" computing experience: I was able to track down an annoatated copy of Turing's "On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem," which I found quite facisnating. Otherwise... I really can't think of anything.

I'm aware this is probably not quite what you wanted for this assignement, but it is what it is.
