Grad School

In the process of one afternoon, I have both updated my resume, submitted it for a Google internship, applied to grad school, and ordered the bookoes of transcripts needed for all of this.

Mostly I'm doing better than I was, though that may be because I am devestatingly exausted. I spent all weekend in Chapel Hill at Pearl Hacks, the first all-girl hackathon in the state, and it was more exausting than anything else. I played mother duck to all of my department's undergrad girls (sadly, this made us only 10) and saw everyone fed, watered, drug-free, and returned safely to App. I didn't get much done, though I got some of a Systems Lab done and met a guy from google who might be able to get me an internship. So cool.

I've decided to go ahead with grad school, mostly because I came to the realization I'm at the point where I can read most advanced textbooks and understand them without needing a class. I want to try to do something with Turing Machines or graph theory, but that's still a year off.

I sign up for summer/fall classes tomorrow. I'll knock out a big chunk over the summer and then have a very light load in the fall. I think I'm due.

I'm running low on fiction to read. I've been trying some new stuff lately, but haven't liked most of it, so I've been reading a lot of nonfiction lately. I need a good scifi/fantasy novel.

And that's about it for me. Writing is still giving me fits, but what else is new? I'm at 99 fics on AO3 and desperate to make it 100, but my use has abandoned me entirely. I shall have to offer cookies and slash fiction...

Read the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. There is also The Infernal Devices which I have not read yet. Here is the reading order:

The Mortal Instruments read order

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones book 1

City of Ashes Book 2

City of Glass Book 3

The Infernal Devices Book 1: Clockwork Angel

The Mortal Instruments, Book 4: City of Fallen Angels

The Infernal Devices, Book 2: Clockwork Prince

The Mortal Instruments, Book 5: City of Lost Souls

The Infernal Devices, Book 3: Clockwork Princess

The Mortal Instruments, Book 6: City of Heavenly Fire

I just finished the last book in the Mortal Instruments series myself. It was a great series. I didn't find out about the order to read until I finished book 5 so I have to go off to read the prequel The Infernal Devices myself. The first book in the Mortal Instruments series was made into a movie and came out in 2013. I saw that first before I got all the books to read. You can find her under her author page at Amazon to see what other books come after the ones above.
Sadly, I read the first book of The Mortal Instruments and thought it was the most terribly written thing I've ever read. Including fan fiction. I know many people enjoy her work, but I'm not one of them.

Thanks for the rec though.
Congrats on your accomplishements, bb ♥ Now if only the fandom side of life would cooperate...
