FAN FIC RECS: Middle-Earth

A selection of assorted fanfics encompassing the entirety of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, including books and movies, arranged by appropriate ship. Suggestions for additions are always welcome.

Gimli / Legolas

Sansûkh by determamfidd: The battle was over, and Thorin Oakenshield awoke, naked and shivering, in the Halls of his Ancestors. The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair. (WiP) (*)

Comes Around Again by scarletjedi: Gimli closes his eyes, an old Dwarf on the brink of death in the home he had built with his husband in the Undying Lands, and opens them again as a young Dwarf in his childhood home in Ered Luin. He's returned to the tumultuous week before The Company set out to recruit their Burglar from his cosy hobbit hole. Gimli, once again a impetuous teen in the eyes of his family, must get into that Company--the lives of his loved ones, and the very fate of Middle Earth--depends on. (WiP)

The Secrets of the Lonely Mountain by lisafer: Legolas is sent to Erebor after the War of the Ring, where he's given the chance to meet up with Gimli again.Predominantly book-verse. And I feel it should be subtitled "Adventures in Moodiness: Featuring an Elf and a Dwarf".

Faramir / Eowyen

Flower of Ice and Steel by AnnaFan: "When I first looked on her and perceived her unhappiness, it seemed to me that I saw a white flower standing straight and proud, shapely as a lily, and yet knew that it was hard, as if wrought by elf-wrights out of steel. Or was it, maybe, a frost that had turned its sap to ice, and so it stood, bitter-sweet, still fair to see, but stricken, soon to fall and die? " (Return of the King : The Houses of Healing). Eowyn and Faramir's meeting and courtship in the Houses of Healing, and their relationship up to their marriage and arrival in Ithilien. Starts mainly bookverse, with occasional movie-verse references, then goes off into the post-war world.

Thorin Oakenshield / Bilbo Baggins

Sansûkh by determamfidd: The battle was over, and Thorin Oakenshield awoke, naked and shivering, in the Halls of his Ancestors. The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair. (WiP) (*)

To Make A Crown by blue_sparkle: Billa never gives away the Arkenstone, instead she gives the men of Laketown her share of the treasure. Little did she know that according to dwarven custom her actions would make her the legal wife of Thorin. And after he is injured in the Battle of Five Armies she ends up ruling as Queen Under the Mountain on his behalf.

Something Blue by lapin: Thorin marries Bilbo after the Battle of Five Armies, a marriage of convenience, not love. Slowly, they must come to make the best of it, Bilbo resolves. After all, he's a Hobbit. They make the best of things.

The Inevitable Love Story between Two Oblivious Idiots by bgtea: In which everyone sees the budding romance between Thorin and Bilbo, except, of course, for Thorin and Bilbo themselves. Also, Dis brings the fear of God in other Dwarves and likes to meddle in her big brother's romantic life, and if she has to do this through scathingly written letters, then so be it.

An Eye For Quality by linelen: Fíli lived his life by an old dwarven proverb: when a fool drops a treasure, a wise man picks it up (it sounded better in the original khuzdul). Bella Baggins never quite fit in the Shire. Perhaps she was made for the mountains, instead. (*)

The Mediator by Mynuet: "An adventure?" Billa Baggins, a respectable genteel hobbit of the Shire, shivered and tried to convince herself it was a shudder. In which a perfectly proper not-so-young lady whistles her reputation down the wind and finds she really is her mother's daughter.
