It took Friedhelm a long time to decide what he wanted to do with his life. Double majoring in Mathematics and Philosophy in college, he would go on to get a duel MD/PhD from the Karolinska Institute, eventually taking a speciality in Critical Care medicine. He would continue to work at Charité until the Battle of Antartica, where he was among those sent by the EU to McMurdo Air Base to deal with the critically injured. He chose to remain with the SGC afterward and was selected to be one of Germany's two representives to the First Atlantis Expedition. Following the recovery of the Tria crew, he was almong those who requested to remain on Atlantis.

During the Second Exodus, he held a teaching position at ETH Zürich's Graduate School of Mathematics. Due to his work with researchers in at the Binnig and Rohrer Nanotechnology Center, he was able to steal research into the Milky Way form replicators as well as several thousand dollars worth of materiel. He's wanted by Interpol for espionage and grand larcony and is under supsicion of treason by the German goverment.

Additionally, she has been in a relationship with fellow Émigré Hyun-Soon Che since early 2006
