Ten Days of Fandom: Day 9

January 31st marks my 5 year anniversary for writing fanfic, and I decided this year I wanted to do something special. I'd seen the fandom snowflake challenge going on, so it sort of gave me a leaping off point - but I decided I wanted to do a ten-day celebration of my fandoms, my fics, and and my favorites, culminating in my usually-morose anniversary post on the 31st.

So today we discuss Les Miserables and Vikings.

We can blame these both on popkin16 as well, which is just as well, because she has kindly agreed to be my platonic soul mate, and thus probably deserves something like blame or fandom-love-letters dedicated to her for her sacrifice.

The story with Les Mis is this: I knew it came out, didn't particularly feel like seeing it, knew popkin16 liked it, still failed to be interested, shipped out, ended up watching a lot of movies in SEPS, and saw just enough of this one to try watching it again after. We only got as far as Vajean's escape to Paris when we watched in SEPS, so I knew nothing about the barricade boys or any of the parts of the movie I actually came to like, but I over identified with "Look Down" and "Valjean's Soliloquy," as I think we all did in SEPS.

So I watched. And enjoyed. And then somewhere between that first watching and last November, I became ridiculously obsessed. I've still not read the book - I keep meaning to, but am so very busy - but I've read like all the fanfic and am a ridiculous Enjorlas/Grantaire shipper now, and could easily see myself writing a fic for it if I wasn't so obsessed with AJ at the moment. My obsession has be stalking their AO3 tag of late, and I've read "these things take time" like 8 times since 1 December of last year and "Gnomen" thrice. I have other recs, but those are the pinnacle of the genre, I think, the first comprising the wonderful "charming" part of "Enjolras Was A Charming Young Man Who Was Capable Of Being Terrible," while the latter very much covers the latter.

But anyway, through a sideways sort of leap, this fandom has also got me on 8tracks, do to all the wonderful ExR mixes that are out there. I've used it mostly to post my own slight obsession with creating mixes for my own work (rather like indexing one's own book, I know), but I've discovered more music than my wallet would care to know through that of late.

Also slightly sideways, I became interested in Vikings through Les Mis - largely because George Blagden is in both, and I find him more adorable than anyone would ever consider an adult man. But that's a personal failing. I'm not all the way through S1 yet, though I hope to be soon, and I've already tried some of the fic for it on AO3. It largely seems to be ot3, which makes me vaguely uncomfortable on principle alone, and there seems to be a disproportional amount of virginity!kink fic, which I also find somewhat uncomfortable, but there are some good ones out there, even though it seems to be a fairly tiny fandom. I'm interested to the point of mildly obsessed at the moment, and one day soon shall have a formal recs page for it.

Both of which cover my current fandom obsessions at the moment. I still keep up with the others, but these are the ones I'm actively stalking at the moment, and comprise the current forward movement of my fandom interests. I feel I should probably add something to this, but I'm tired and tomorrow promises to be another day. Which I want to watch s1e7 of Vikings before.
Both Les Mis and Vikings have fairly small fandoms; it shouldn't take too long to get through all the fic for both, sadly.

I'm glad you like them though XD
Les Mis is small. I think I've read all stories worth reading there twice over. Vikings is tiny.

But I do enjoy both. :D
