FAN FIC RECS: Stargate: Atlantis

A selection of assorted fanfics encompassing the entirety of Stargate: Atlantis, arranged by appropriate ship. Suggestions for additions are always welcome.

John Sheppard / Rodney McKay

Gods That Slumber / Engineering the Fall by nixa_jane:

  • Gods That Slumber: They say there's no risk in anything if you can't actually die. John knows better. (*)

  • Engineering the Fall: They were so desperate, so out of their depth, and then there was John, with the city lighting up under his fingertips.

Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose by synecdochic: SGC finally stops calling him by December. Rodney celebrates by writing a final exam for his relativity class so difficult that it reduces four students to tears in the exam hall. Upon reflection, he decides to be merciful and offer partial credit. (*)

The Difference Engine by sam_storyteller: Sheppard remembered dying in Afghanistan, but since he was still walking around he didn't pay that memory too much mind. (*)

Catch-19 by mmmchelle: The IOA wants to replace John, but never fear, Rodney has a plan.

To Have and To Hold by ru_salki99: The IOA decide that because Rodney has never been in a successful long term relationship while on Atlantis, that he lacks certain leadership skills. John however, can't bare the thought of Rodney leaving, so comes up with a cunning plan.

here is the secret that everyone knows by sabinelagrande: John stops wearing his uniform on the two thousand and second day after they arrive.

paper cranes (upstairs, downstairs) by verity: "Oh my God," Rodney says, stricken. "This is—this is one of those British costume dramas Ronon always wants to watch and I'm the uncouth American!"

Just Might Be by ashinae & jay_linden: If necessity is the mother of invention, then rumour is the bastard child of truth.

Four Funerals and a Wedding by kisahawklin: The story follows Lorne after Sheppard goes missing in The Last Man (*)

Every Day in Every Way by velocitygrass: "I'm here to propose an arrangement. Between us. I assume you remember our talk from earlier today and how... challenging dating can be on Atlantis. And since we've established that you're attracted to me, I think it would be mutually beneficial for us to have sex."

A Not-So-Modest Proposal by reccea: "I'm pretty much left with you as the only reasonable person to assume the mantle of protecting my mind in perpetuity. So we should get married before I'm speared to death by some alien with rudimentary weapons and statistically improbable aim."

Tongues of Men and Angels by Mad_Maudlin: When SG-4 is ambushed offworld, an injured Major John Sheppard must put his trust in a Tok'ra agent named McKay to survive. But what secrets is McKay keeping about his mission, the planet, and his own motives for helping John?

Written by the Victors by cesperanza: In hindsight, the ideological break between Elizabeth Weir and John Sheppard seems almost predetermined. Weir's diplomatic successes were based on her ability to coax disagreeing parties to abide by a series of carefully negotiated rules. Sheppard, on the other hand, had a long history of disregarding orders and a tendency to think that rules didn't apply to him. Sheppard's sense of himself as somehow exceptional only deepened once he went to Atlantis, probably because it was more or less true.

Funny Little Secret by crysothemis: Having a secret admirer was a lot more complicated than Rodney had expected.

Black Helicopters by whizzy:

  • Black Helicopters at Dawn: Screw the bet. Rodney was going to prove the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. Oh, and incidentally, he might just catch the United States Air Force with their pants around their ankles.

  • Wrong End of the Rescue: "However, the fact remains that Dr McKay is now in possession of highly sensitive information regarding Stargate operations, and has exhibited a troubling tendency to disregard the Air Force's confidentiality in the past."

  • Black Mountainside: "I know," John agreed, without sympathy. Rodney could hate it all he liked; he couldn't afford to know the truth. I lied. It doesn't matter who walks through that gate with you. No one else owes you what I do. No one else is going to protect you the way I would.

Soraya Didn't Have To Deal With This by melonbutterfly: Prince John of America doesn't exactly plan on becoming one half of the most kitschy, dramatic romance of the 20th century. He also doesn't really figure out that that's what's going on until King Rodney, somewhat dramatically, renounces the throne of Canada and manoeuvres John's father into happily agreeing to marry his spare heir off to a man. And then there's the part where John suddenly gets stationed on the most exciting base ever.

Bang by rageprufrock: YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ALONE (*)

Six years by ami_ven: John didn’t have the words to explain how his life had been fading, leeched of color, the dark sea of uniforms, the endless pale desert, the shock of white snow, until Rodney had appeared with his blue eyes and his orange jacket and given John the stars.

Teyla Emmagen / Richard Woolsey

Beautiful As Southern Skies by sabinelagrande: How it changed, in four parts.

Evan Lorne / Radek Zelenka

Four Funerals and a Wedding by kisahawklin: The story follows Lorne after Sheppard goes missing in The Last Man (*)
